MotorBusiness | Crisis Looming – Car Sales slumping further

The Center Automotive Research at the University of Duisburg-Essen has lowered its forecast for the worldwide automobile market. A new CAR survey indicates that world growth in the automobile sector is slower that had been forecast.

For 2013, the CAR expects a growth of just 2%. This would mean a total sales figure worldwide for 2013 of 68.2 million automobiles. Read more

Better Place bankrupt, now up for sale

Better Place may not be in a better place right now (pun intended). Why, the electric car company recently filed for bankruptcy only a year after launching a vehicle charging network in Israel. This is not so good news for the green enthusiasts as the company has potential to be successful because it allows electric car owners to exchange their batteries. The European headquarters of Jaguar Land Rover will move this year from England to Schwalbach near Frankfurt, Germany. There, about 60 jobs will be created, said Bernhard Kuhnt, Regional Director for Europe, according to German trade magazine “Automobilwoche”. “Few people will come from England. The majority will be hired new , “said Banfield.

Tesla receiving more Model S orders from Hong Kong

What’s in Hong Kong that a lot of people are ordering a Tesla Model S sedan? The pricey green car is wanted in the city. This is according to Bloomberg.

The Transport Department says that there are currently 303 registered private electric cars by April 2013. More will be added as Tesla is receiving more orders for the Model S. Read more

Mercedes-Benz sells more vehicles than ever before in the first half of 2013In the first half of 2013, Mercedes-Benz posted yet another record with sales of 694,433 vehicles (+6.4%). With 131,609 units sold, sales in June also reached record level (+8.3%), not least through strong growth in China (+16.0%). Marketing expenditure well down: Auto producers cut marketing expenditure by 3%

The automobile industry is trimming its advertising budget. In the first quarter of 2013, a total of 524.4m euros was spent, a fall of three per cent on the corresponding period in 2012.

This has been reported by the car weekly “Automobilwoche” based on information from the market research company Nielsen. Volkswagen maintained its position at the top of the marketing spending tree with a figure of 56.3m euros. However, this represented an above-average reduction of 5.5%. Read more

At the end of 2010, 517 cars per 1,000 persons were registered in Germany, placing the country ninth in the European league table.
