For prices the BMW 1 Series is starting from 28,200 euros BMW starts from 28 September, the third generation of the 1er. Was the 1er so far the only compact with rear-wheel drive, he now like Golf and Co. to a driven front axle, said the manufacturer. That justified BMW above all with a larger space and promises therefore with an almost unchanged length of 4.32 meters and a shortened even by two centimeters wheelbase three centimeters more knee room in the rear. In addition, the trunk will grow by 20 to 380 liters, the manufacturer continues.

New drive concept and well-known engines

If you put the rear seat around, now fit up to 1200 liters behind the first time on request electric flap. Its refined design with larger kidney and sportier appearance marks the new edition visually. While the drive concept is new, the engines are already known from other series. There are the Einser first with two gasoline and three diesels. Entry-level model is a three-cylinder gasoline engine with 1.5 liters of displacement and 103 kW / 140 hp in the 118i. At the top is a 2.0-liter turbo with 225 kW / 306 hp and standard all-wheel drive in the M135i.

In the diesels, the range extends first from the 116d with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder and 85 kW / 116 hp over the 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 110 kW / 150 hp in the 118d to the same engine with 140 kW / 190 hp and four-wheel drive in the 120d.

BMW 1 Series: Medium term new engine program

You can choose to shift manually with six gears, with a dual clutch with seven or one with eight gears. Depending on the configuration, the 1 Series achieves top speeds between 200 and 250 km / h and fuel consumption from 3.8 liters of diesel to 6.8 liters of gasoline (100 to 155 g / km CO2).

In the medium term, BMW wants to expand the engine range even more and especially to refill the gasoline. However, in view of the rather price-sensitive clientele in this segment, there should be neither an electric 1 nor a plug-in hybrid, said Project Manager Holger Stauch. Not even mild hybrids with electric starter generator are currently provided.
