The head of the US electric car maker Tesla, Elon Musk, has talked to the senate chiefs of Berlin and Hamburg and complained about long waiting periods in the registration of cars in Germany. According to the Berlin Senate Chancellery Elon Musk asked the Governing Mayor Michael Müller (SPD) in March for an interview. Also in the telephone call with Hamburg Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) it was about the so-called dealer procedure in the registration of cars, said a spokesman for the Senate on Friday. First the “world” had reported about it.
Dealer usually takes over the registration
The California car manufacturer does not always have a registration service in Germany. When the new car arrives, the customer gets the indication that he can now allow his car. In most dealerships of manufacturers from Germany, the dealer takes over the registration.
Waiting time has been drastically reduced
In Berlin, in the past, there were indeed significant problems with admission. At times, the citizens had to wait up to 32 days to an appointment, long lines at the registration offices were part of the picture. Car dealers also complained about these conditions. Meanwhile, the situation has significantly improved according to the Senate, among other things by additional staff. Car owners therefore receive an appointment within four or five days, and business customers wait a maximum of two days. The queues are therefore gone. From October, the car registration should be possible online.
There are also waiting times of several days at the Hamburg State Traffic Authority. Customers would have complained to Musk via Twitter.
