Planning to buy a BMW i3? Well unfortunately, you will have to wait up to six more months as BMW sales director Ian Robertson reports that the company has received 11,000 orders for the compact electric vehicle worldwide. 80% of these orders are either new customers or are switching from other brands and as of May 2013, the i3 has had 1,200 pre-orders bound for first adopters in the US dubbed as “electronauts”
The BMW i3 has an MSRP of around $41,350 or $45,200 with an optional range extender (“REx” option powered by a 647 cc two-cylinder gasoline engine with a 9 L / 2.0 imp gal; 2.4 US gal / fuel tank that engages when the battery level drops to a pre-specified point, acting purely as a generator to produce electricity to extend the range to about 160 to 186 miles) and will offer owners access to the BMW techonological suite including apps for parking assitance and integrated transport.
