Volkswagen is set to put the Taigun, a small SUV based on the VW UP, into production, according to magazine “Auto Motor und Sport,” adding that preparations are well advanced for the model.
A prototype model is in fact on production according to internal plans and is set to be presented at the end of 2015 for test drives and early 2016 for release. The Taigun wil be at the same base price of the VW UP which is around 16000 Euros.

Measuring at 3.86 meters short with five centimeters extended to 2.47 wheelbase, the Taigun is powered by a new three-cylinder turbo with 110 hp engine, which consumes 4.7 liters on average. Alternatively, the Taigun will offer two engines with 60 hp and 75 hp. In addition, VW is planning diesel and gas versions, with a special version for South American markets that can utilize ethanol.
