Griffith University students managed to build an autonomous vehicle that can be controlled via a smartphone. It’s not an actual car but just a toy car that has been hacked to connect with an Android phone.
The plastic toy car is controlled by an Android-running smartphone. This project had the three students win the 2013 Queensland iAwards. According to the students, most sensors are used from the phone to control the car. The smartphone sends signals to the car where to go, thanks to a GPS system and the camera.
The toy car is just a prototype. The three developers are hoping to bring the technology to a bigger car real soon.
