While a lot of companies out there are trying hard to use the rapidly expanding social media space to the optimum, GM plans to truly leverage the opportunity on this SuperBowl Sunday. Not only will Chevy ads be all over the TV screens this Sunday, there will also be an app on phones that will let you answer trivia and other questions and play games during the game and win prices, including a Chevy car, pizzas from Papa John’s, cell phones from Motorola amongst others.
Users of the Chevy app will receive a unique “license plate” number on their device. Users whose numbers match a plate that appears in a Chevy spot during the game will win a new vehicle.
Joel Ewanick, GM’s global chief marketing officer, says it’s the first time a company has offered a large-scale app specifically for Super Bowl viewers.
“The way people watch TV has changed with smartphones and tablets helping viewers interact while in front of the screen,” Ewanick said in a statement. “This app takes that interactivity to a whole new level on one of the biggest days for television viewing.”
