Hybrid manufacturers need to stay hopeful, say Gen Y’ers
January 22, 2012
While the US might be concerned that hybrid sales have not accounted yet for as much of the automobiles market as they would have liked it to, the good news as per recent updates and reviews published is that hybrids are definitely in fashion and do have a promising future. Considering the Gen Y’ers have expressed that going hybrid is definitely on their list of choices from an economic standpoint as well as an environmental standpoint, the industry definitely needs to stay positive and hopeful. Yes women love Aston Martin. Aston Martin loves them back!

The Aston Martin will always be a favorite with me. Being a woman myself, I can totally identify why when it comes to making really alluring commercials, the Aston Martin ties in a lot of everyday pleasant-looking women and keeps it real than just bringing in semi-clad women who don’t add much value to the car’s appeal but rather distracts from it.
The video above is the new commercial by Aston Martin for its new car, and the slogan reads ‘Aston Martin loves women. Women love Aston Martin’. I’ll be honest with a car that sexy and realistic, who couldn’t help falling in love?

With the Olympics being around the corner and to be held in London this year, BMW truly wants to leverage its sponsorship, and what better way to do that than bring not one but two special editions of its much adored Mini Cooper? Yes, BMW is all set to introduce two special editions of the classic hatchback, both named after two popular London neighborhoods, the Baker Street edition and the Bayswater edition.
Available on the Mini One (the entry-level model overseas), One D (the diesel version), Cooper and Cooper D, the Baker Street edition lays black V-shaped bonnet stripes over a light gray (or available white or black) base color, complemented by glossy black 16-inch alloys and mirror caps. Inside, the cloth and leather seats are finished in a diamond-pattern with gray trim and chrome accents. A whole mess of optional extras are bundled as standard, and include of course, there are the requisite special badges.
The Bayswater edition available on Cooper, Cooper S, Cooper D and Cooper SD models – takes a more sporting approach, with an exclusive shade of metallic blue (or optional black or gray) with a black roof, centered blue and gray stripes up the hood, with 17-inch alloys in glossy black with polished rims, and door mirrors that, well…”mirror” the racing stripe: blue on the right, gray on the left. Leather seats come in an exclusive shade of anthracite with blue and gray bolsters and top-stitching, complemented by piano lacquer trim, stainless steel pedals, bundled optional equipment and special badges.

Just like they always love to do, Mitsubishi has now thrown in a teaser of the all-new vehicle that it plans to debut in Geneva this year. However, they are still holding ground and not confirming that it will be a next generation version of the Outlander.
What they do however say is that the car reflects the gradual shift in the automaker’s design language and that it would be a strategic and innovative vehicle. Speakers of the company insist that it is too early to say whether the model will be shared with PSA/Peugeot-Citroen and that the new design shift will focus more towards being environment friendly.
The Ford Focus ST-R Racecar gets tested
January 22, 2012

Tanner Foust decided to boost the car’s ego a bit further by giving the car a quick squeezover at the Miami-Homestead Speedway. Click here to enjoy the video.

Toyota’s NS4 plug-in hybrid concept has vhetted our appetites for a while now, but just when we thought we can deal with waiting for it, Toyota has decided to tease us with a less than one minute video of the hybrid. And the great thing is it is not just a glimpse at the logo and the tuning, but gives us enough to outline the vehicle’s badges as well as the quick line-drawing outline.
There are chances the NS4 will be used to display new design language for the entire Toyota hybrid fleet.
The debut of the NS4 next week at the Detroit 2010 Auto Show will be accompanied by the company’s Prius C; a Yaris-sized hybrid with better fuel economy figures than the current Prius.

Executives not optimistic about EV/Hybrid future, but invest anyway
January 10, 2012

While there is tremendous interest in the EV and hybrid automobiles segments, automobile executives do not expect a very hefty 13 years for this segment. However, they would rather lay a bet rather than lose out if it turned out otherwise, so they have decided to invest in the segment despite odds and just let it play itself out and let the market decide.
A survey conducted on about 200 auto executives globally brings out that:
• 81 percent anticipate larger investments in battery packs and battery cell technology;
• 85 percent believe automakers will invest in more electric motor production; and
• 76 percent expect more investment in electronics for electric vehicles.
“They are hedging their bets,” interprets Gary Silberg, national auto industry leader for the U.S. financial consulting firm KPMG LLC. KPMG conducts the executive attitude survey each year.
“They are saying that we don’t know yet what the winning vehicle technology will be for the future, and so they are going to invest in all of it and let the market decide.”
It’s a gamble. But it may be well worth it. Only time will tell.
